Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant has vowed to eliminate Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar. During the press conference, he said that after the end of fighting in Gaza, Hamas would be destroyed as a security threat to Israel. “Israel will ensure complete freedom of action in Gaza and will act at its own discretion,” Galant said.
A separate report by the Financial Times cited tensions arising from disagreement between Hamas and Egypt over the deployment of UN observers. Egypt wanted them on Hamas-controlled territory, while the movement itself would have preferred them on the Egyptian side. This dispute has created difficulties for the evacuation of foreigners from the Gaza Strip.
